Robot Jox

Here's what the citizens of the Overlook Theatre had to say:

Lord Battle - "Forget "Pacific Rim", "Robot Jox" is home of the real rocket punch!" - 4 Stars

The Berkeley Blazer - "An Action piece from the halls of memory, the nostalgic tone and free-wheeling, unintentional humor is satisfying if forgotten shortly after the film." - 2 Stars

Dungeon Master - "Classic Sci-Fi, should be part of any "low-art" film canon, great FX, awesome robot designs. Very fun setting with cold war inspired dystopian future." - 4 Stars

Huntress - Fell Asleep - Default 2 Stars

Math Mage - "Gundam fight all set, ready, GO!" - 5 Stars

The Overlook Theatre Final Rating*
"Robot Jox" was a very pleasant surprise. I heard about the film from Dungeon Master after we had just gone to see "Pacific Rim" (thus my mentioning it above becomes clear) and with a quick Google search discovered it was directed by Stuart Gordon. In my book, that made it a must see.
The double feature that day was almost ruined by The Great Hornito and I screening "Real Steel" as a joke before we started. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'd love to review that film...
I really don't have much to say about "Robot Jox" due to a combination of it having been a while since we screened it and it's just a pretty solid Gordon film. By that I mean if you enjoy "The Re-Animator" not because of its very awesome adult humor but because of its comic book feel, "Robot Jox" has that very same campiness just applied to cold war mech fighting. It also contains a cameo by Jeffrey Combs!
