Screenings in the Bay (Friday to Sunday): The Belko Experiment, The Devil's Candy, Legally Black

Hey guys, Happy St. Patrick's Day! But more importantly (for me at least), happy Friday!!

There are so many cool things happening this weekend, I don't even know what to try and do. Between new movies coming to theatres, Peaches Christ teaming up with RuPaul's Drag Race winner Bob the Drag Queen in Legally Black, and our own movies, this is going to be a pretty eventful couple of days. Luckily, some of us Overlook creeps got a head start; we saw Raw at a super early screening at the Alamo Drafthouse, and got our review done in time for the wider release (check it out here), then gathered at the cineplex to see The Belko Experiment last night. But you know what, that's just the beginning of it all.

Surprisingly, only one theatre in the bay area will be screening the quintessential St. Patrick's Day movie Leprechaun and that's the New Parkway, but the Balboa (where we just spent three glorious bigfoot infused days at) is launching a new kind of lineup on Saturday nights. With their new beer license in hand, they already have the next seven Beer Movies listed on their site. And tomorrow night's Beer Movie happens to be one of my favorite invasion comedies, Mars Attacks!

Saturday 18th @ 10pm (1hr 50min)

The storyline affectionately harkens back to the deadpan sincerity of such '50s and '60s science-fiction films as The Day the Earth Stood Still and War of the Worlds. Flying saucers have been reliably seen over the capitals of the world, and the whole world awaits with bated breath to see what will transpire. Among those waiting is the President of the United States (Jack Nicholson), who is assured by his science advisor (Pierce Brosnan) that the coming aliens are utterly peaceful. This advice is hotly contested by the military (led by Rod Steiger), who advices the President to annihilate them. When the aliens land, they are seen to be green, garish, and very cheerful. But appearances prove deceiving when the "friendly" aliens abruptly disintegrate the entire U.S. Congress.
