Screenings in the Bay (Monday 4th to Sunday 10th): Lords of Chaos, Climax, Cat Video Fest 2019

Found Footage February has come and gone! And we were so wrapped up in the Unnamed Footage Festival that we barely even posted about it at all... But now that the festival is over, there will be more attention to pay to the Overlook. Starting with the movies playing in the bay area this week!

We start the week off on the best foot possible: with cats! Mores specifically the CatVideoFest! It's screening today at the Opera Plaza Theatre and will hopefully have more showtimes in the near future. Terror Tuesday is a big name this week, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter will be screening on 35mm at the Alamo Drafthouse.

The Balboa has something going on just about every day this week: a Nic Cage double feature on Tuesday, Rewind Wednesday and 16 Millimurder Wednesday and more coming soon! Midnites for Maniacs presents Phenomena at the Roxie Theatre Thursday night, and we end the week with the beginning of Hitchcock fest at the Stanford Theatre!

Monday 4th to Thursday 7th @ 8:10pm (1hr 52min)
Drama/ Horror/ Thriller (IMDB)
Oslo, 1987. Determined to escape his traditional upbringing, 17-year-old Euronymous (Rory Culkin) becomes fixated on creating 'true Norwegian black metal' with his band Mayhem. As he works to create increasingly shocking publicity stunts to put the band's name on the map, the lines between show and reality start to blur as his bandmates come to believe the hype. Arson, violence and finally, a vicious murder shock the nation.

Monday 4th to Wednesday 6th (1hr 35min)
Drama/ Horror/ Music (IMDB)
From director Gaspar Noé (Irreversible; Enter the Void; Love) comes a hypnotic, hallucinatory, and ultimately hair-raising depiction of a party that descends into delirium over the course of one wintry night. In Climax, a troupe of young dancers gathers in a remote and empty school building to rehearse. Following an unforgettable opening performance lit by virtuoso cinematographer Benoît Debie (Spring Breakers; Enter the Void) and shot by Noé himself, the troupe begins an all-night celebration that turns nightmarish as the dancers discover they've been pounding cups of sangria laced with potent LSD. Tracking their journey from jubilation to chaos and full-fledged anarchy, Noé observes crushes, rivalries, and violence amid a collective psychedelic meltdown. Starring Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde) and a cast of professional dancers, Climax is Noé's most brazen and visionary statement yet.
