Profondo Rosso?

I was having a hard time trying to figure out what to post today when I remembered I had bought a Goblin record years ago at Amoeba. I had no clue what the contents of the record were as I had never played it (and the cover didn't say), I had simply bought and framed it like a good collector. So I took it out of the frame and opened the cover for the first time in years...

My first reaction was, this is awesome! Followed by, wait, what is this?I was pretty confused and I actually had to look up "Profondo Rosso" and to my surprise it turned out to be "Deep Red". This had to be my most brain dead moment ever, as I own the film. 

If you have not seen the film or have but just didn't pay attention, yes I was at least right about it being a Goblin record. 

In fact now that I know exactly what it is, I think I'm going to bring it to the Warfield when I see them. I just love getting stuff signed and who knows when or if I'll ever have a chance again.

 Oh and the damn frame I used was damaging the record case, so I swapped it out with another record that had a thinner case. 

This is the record I replaced it with and no this is not the glam band, its the Canadian death band Slaughter (very cool, check 'em out).

And since I'm talking about framed horror records, here is the only other one I own. I will add that I love this to death, in fact this is one of my favorite things I own.

Dredd Sequel and "Judge Minty"

          One of the many things that was talked about at the past San Diego Comic Con was the possible sequel to "Dredd", Karl Urban himself brought it up saying,"Clearly it has found an audience. The home video sales for "Dredd 3D" just went through the roof. I think it sold 650,000 units in the first week.". I myself have been very vocal about how much I love "Dredd", I constantly harrass people about seeing the film. I mean this is the film that moved me so much I had to write about it, which in turn got this blog started. So it's safe to say I fully support the petition that was started to make it known people want more. If you find that checking the above link out is a bit to much for you just go like them on Facebook. (Thank you Bloody-Disgusting for the quote).

          While we wait to see if the sequel will happen or not we can at least satisfy our Dredd craving with a pretty good looking fan film. "Judge Minty" is a non profit film set in the Judge Dredd world. I think this is pretty awesome as you normally only see fan films like this about Star wars or superheros. The film is up and free on their home site or you can simply view it below. Spread the word about the film if you like it, I mean they worked pretty hard for free so fans could some more gritty Mega-City One action. Enjoy!

           If you happen to visit the Overlook Theatre regularly I suggest waiting to view it here. As I will for sure be screening this film in the future.

7 Days to Die *Kickstarter*

          I normally wouldn't post about a world building game that is VERY much like minecraft but add zombies to it and your in. The picture above really does not depict the type of game this is so check out the video they posted below.




          I myself have never played Minecraft so I may give this game a try. Also I find it hard to resist the RPG/Zombie combo. Even if I end up passing on the kickstarter for this game I will admit I enjoy watching the videos, oh and the pit traps are awesome!

Ultra Violet Give Away

          A few days ago I posted about my fun time I had at Target purchasing these films, well it turns out that they both came equipped with Ultra Violet copies. This means I get to share a little bit of the fun with the Overlook readers. Last Night on Earth

          Now I don't want to get into the habit of reviewing anything remotely horror but the board game Last Night on Earth is just to cool. In fact this isn't just a remotely horror board game its supposed to play like you are a character in a movie. Just from the cover you can see all the stereotypes they nailed, like the high school jock, hot nurse, and country cutie, yeah they are a bit campy but it really works well. The game is for 2-6 players but I'm not gonna tell you to host a party or anything, I mean the main reason I decided to make this post is because it comes with awesome minis.

Here are the 3 different poses the zombies come in. I personally think that these are some of the coolest zombie miniatures period. And believe me here at the Overlook Theatre we have a little bit of experience with pewters...

And of course these are just the ones out of the carrying cases.

These pewters (they are plastic but I'm used to referring to them as pewters either way, so bare with me) are so cool we even use them for a game one of our friends is running.

Why Frame A Laser Disc?

         A while back in my first "I'm Back" post I mentioned buying laser discs for the art. So I pulled the unframed ones out of my closet and took pictures of the ones on my wall to show how a laser disc can make pretty cool art.Above is a shot of 2/3 of my front room wall. Normally I can't stand my picture frames being crooked but the sub woofer is on the other side of the wall so I've gotten used to it...

          Id say the best and most obvious reason to frame a laser disc would be the art. Pumpkinhead has never looked better than he does on this lost format. Sadly these two are living in my closet at the moment, once I find the wall space these bad boys are going up for sure.

Another reason to dig through piles of laser discs in hopes of finding one to frame is the chance you may find some cool alternate art. Antoine Doinel is seen above stealing milk which is a much cooler subject for a cover than any of the ones they used for dvd/blu ray (as seen below).

And once every now and then you find a film that is a pain in the ass to find in any format. I found this copy of  "Don't Look Now" at the Amoeba in Berkeley for $2.99, that is just something you don't pass up. On a side note I also found this book at Half Priced Books just a few blocks away! 

I love books that focus on a single movie (I have another about "They Live").

Then the ultimate reason to hunt laser discs down. The simple fact some movies just never make it to the dvd/blu ray format! Well "The Return of the Evil Dead" has since been released but some things will never, like the untouched versions of the first 3 Star Wars movies.

I've seen this for sale 3 times, each time for $40. I still kick myself for not purchasing them.

          So now that you are dying to hunt down and find your favorite films in laser disc format you'll enjoy this next bit of info. Framing them is incredibly easy as they are the same size as records! Hit up any Aaron Brothers or Michaels and they should have these sitting around for you...
