Are you guys ready for a horror heavy week? Do I even have to ask?
The next couple of days are filled with sharks, snakes, obsession, dangerous apps, and a certain backstory many of us have been waiting to learn about. Yes, it's Annabelle: Creation week, and I'm personally excited for this new addition to the Conjuring world, regardless of how I felt about Annabelle (which was a bit forgettable but I didn't hate). And this installation is directed by David Sandberg, who made Lights Out and has a pretty distinct feel to his camerawork, so I'm interested to see the crossover. But until we can talk about that, we've got some found footage with [REC] on Terror Tuesday, 70's Snakes for Weird Wednesday, and the 1999 The Mummy screening in the East bay. And some cool VOD releases on top of all that!

A kind of reptilian take on Willard, Snakes finds a lonely, backwoods eccentric taking revenge on the small-town folks who wronged him by means of some deadly, venomous serpents. Though he leads a somewhat isolated life, Snakey Bender (Les Tremayne) relishes in the simple pleasures of listening to marching music with his friend Burt (Richard Kennedy) and watching while local schoolteacher Miss Williams fondles Lucifer, his prized snake. When the local pastor convinces the children of the town to stop bringing small animals out to Snakey's place to feed to his collection of reptiles, the gears of disaster are set into motion. It's not long before a rejection by Miss Williams and Burt's revelation that he can no longer get together with Snakey to enjoy their marching music push the lonely old recluse into a murderous frenzy; and when the town grocer beats Lucifer to death, Snakey begins to utilize his scaly little friends to murderous effect.

In 1925, a band of adventurers seeking fame and fortune - led by Rick O'Connel (Brendan Fraser), an American expatriate who has joined the foreign legion, and Evelyn Carnarvon (Rachel Weisz), an amateur archeologist - find a previously unknown burial site in Egypt. The team starts to dig, hoping to find lost riches, but instead they disturb the tomb of Imhotep, and soon the cursed priest rises from his grave to wreck vengeance on humanity.
