Screenings in the Bay (Friday to Sunday): Slender Man, The Atomic Cafe, Along Came the Devil

Happy Friday guys! We're on the cusp of another weekend and, although it's not a tremendously packed one, we have three new titles coming out in one way or another today. There's Slender Man, which I have reason to believe will at lease be a fun experience with a good group of friends, The Meg, which has somehow been made to feel like another installation of The Transporter, and then there's Along Came the Devil, the most confusing of them all. This film was originally called Tell Me Your Name, a line that is still used in the film, if the trailer is accurate. And I don't think I'm alone in thinking that that was a much better and more memorable title. Especially since this new title is uncomfortably similar to Along Came Polly...

Anyway, if you're not into the opening weekend crowd, the Roxie Theatre has several films starting their run today. Among them is The Atomic Cafe and Sorry to Bother You. Check out the detail below!

Opening This Week

Opens Friday 10th (1hr 33min)
Horror (IMDB)
In a small town in Massachusetts, four high school girls perform a ritual in an attempt to debunk the lore of SLENDER MAN. When one of the girls goes mysteriously missing, they begin to suspect that she is, in fact, HIS latest victim.

Opens Friday 10th (1hr 54min)
Action/ Horror/ Sci-Fi (IMDB)
A deep-sea submersible--part of an international undersea observation program--has been attacked by a massive creature, previously thought to be extinct, and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest trench in the Pacific... with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, expert deep sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is recruited by a visionary Chinese oceanographer (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter Suyin (Li Bingbing), to save the crew--and the ocean itself--from this unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. What no one could have imagined is that, years before, Taylor had encountered this same terrifying creature. Now, teamed with Suyin, he must confront his fears and risk his own life to save everyone trapped below.

Limited Theatres/VOD Friday 10th (1hr 29min)
Drama/ Horror/ Thriller (IMDB)
Ashley (Sydney Sweeney) is sent to live with her estranged Aunt Tanya (Jessica Barth). While in her old hometown she has visions of her deceased mom, driving her to contact the spirit world. Ashley unknowingly unearths a demonic force, which leaves her loved ones fighting for her soul.

Friday 10th & Saturday 11th @ 7pm (1hr 32min)
Sunday 12th @ 6:30pm
Documentary/ History (IMDB)
This film recounts a defining period of 20th century history and serves as a chilling and often hilarious reminder of cold-war era paranoia in the United States--artfully presented through a collage of newsreel footage, government archives, military training films, and fifties music.

Saturday 11th @ 9pm (2hr 15min)
Sunday 12th @ 8:30pm
Fantasy/ Horror/ Musical (IMDB)
Clara, a lonely nurse from the outskirts of São Paulo, is hired by mysterious and wealthy Ana as the nanny for her unborn child. The two women develop a strong bond, but a fateful night changes their plans.
