Tonight, the Super Shangri-La Show will be presenting the 1963 Judex at the Balboa Theatre at 7:30pm and will be hosted by our good friend, and eccentric film enthusiast, Kai.
If you ventured with us into the world of Bigfoot Bonanza, then you've definitely met the red blazered event coordinator, but if not, tonight would also be a good introduction. It'll also give you a taste of the craziness that's coming this October 21st when the Space Visitors Film Fest lands at the same theatre!
This day-long follow up to Bigfoot Bonanza will feature alien movies exclusively, but will also include presentations from writers, filmmakers, and guest speakers. There will even be a puppeteer.
And the range of different films that will be packed into a single day is incredible! Here are a couple of the titles you can look forward to:
Laserblast (1978)
Horror/ Sci-Fi
Billy (Kim Milford) has the same problems that many teens have to endure. His mother is inattentive, local cops target him for speeding tickets, his girlfriend's grandfather hates him, and teenaged bullies make fun of his van. Billy finds the keys to his emancipation in the desert, when he stumbles across a laser gun left behind by a pair of aliens. As he exacts revenge upon his unsuspecting tormentors, he becomes overwhelmed by the power of the gun and turns into a crazed, green-faced monster.
Invasion on Chestnut Ridge (2017)
Documentary
The incredible story of one of the more bizarre places in America, and the unusual activity that has taken place there for decades.
The Mothman of Point Pleasant (2017)
Documentary
Learn the terrifying, true story about thirteen months that changed history! In November of 1966 a car full of kids encountered a creature unlike anything they'd ever seen before. In the weeks and months to follow, the monster (now known as The Mothman) was sighted again and again on country roads and around the state of West Virginia.
The Arrival (1996)
Sci-Fi/ Thriller
Zane, an astronomer, discovers intelligent alien life. But the aliens are keeping a deadly secret, and will do anything to stop Zane from learning it.
Just another reason to look forward to October! This event is expected to sell out, so get tickets soon! You can get them from the Balboa Theatre's site and they're only $20. And for an extra five bucks your ticket will include a beer (or another beverage of your choice) and a small popcorn. So come out to the Sunset District this October 21st, hang out in a haunted theatre, watch alien movies, and support your local independent movie house!
We'll see you there!
