Tomorrow is the opening night for Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story, a found footage film based on the YouTube series, which is inspired by the Slender Man mythos. I have not heard much about this film and was surprised to find a couple of familiar faces in the cast:
Alexandra Breckenridge
(American Horror Story, The Walking Dead)
Doug Jones
(Pan's Labyrinth, Mama)
Lots of people have nothing good to say about found footage but this movie looks like it was handled by people who knew what they were doing. Non stop shaky cam is not what found footage was meant to be, it's just a cheap distraction used by people who don't know what they're doing. I think we should all give the genre another chance. The Roxie is also showing another film you won't want to miss:
This film set the record for the highest number of dogs in a film (over 400), all of which were rescued from shelters, trained, and adopted after the filming. This is about the journey of a lost dog, trying to find his loving owner. There's so much more to this film, but I don't want to give anything away. Screening start on Saturday the 16th, you can read more about it here.
Let's all go to the movies!
