Screenings in the Bay (Friday to Sunday): The First Purge, Scary Cow Film Festival, Song of Solomon

It's that day again, the day leading into the weekend that means we've finished another week. It's Friday! As usual, I'm very ready for this. This was a weird week, many of us had the middle of the week off, and there were two new releases on two different days of the week. I'll only be talking about one of them, The First Purge. I've been completely transparent in my dislike for this franchise, which may not be fair since I have yet to see the second one, but it would be a long uphill battle to win me back with one movie when I was lukewarm/ice cold on the other two. But after seeing The Purge Night yesterday, I find myself a bit more forgiving to the franchise as a whole. It made some strange but this was easily my favorite out of all the purge movies so far. I still wouldn't stand up for it in an argument, but I can see myself recommending it to a couple people I know.

Opening This Week

Screening All Weekend (1hr 37min)
Horror (Rotten Tomatoes)
Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country's 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge. To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

Saturday 7th @ 2pm
Please join us on July 7th to see a program of short films made by our members. You’ll be invited to vote for the best films and the top voted films will receive budgets for future projects! Your participation will help us decide which filmmakers should receive funding!
Following the screening, there will be an After Party where we’ll be toasting the filmmakers, mingling, talking about our next projects, and announcing the winners! We’d love to see you there! Be sure to purchase a Festival Pass if you’d like to attend the party. Annual members of Scary Cow receive one free Festival Pass to every screening that they are a member.
