Screenings in the Bay (Friday to Sunday): SF Indie Fest, Valentine's Day Haunts

Happy Friday everyone! This weekend the skies are supposed to be clear and blue, which I'm not too crazy about, especially when there are not that many movies playing, but in this case it may work out for the better. As you probably know, we are days away from Valentine's Day. This usually means the air will be filled with a lot of rom-coms, jewelry commercials, and ... haunted houses? Yes, that's right! There is an uprising of Valentine's Day themed haunted houses, many of which will be going on this weekend. So, maybe the rain stopped for a reason.
If lovey dovey haunted houses don't interest you, we also have several SF Indie Film Fest screenings scheduled for this weekend. If you haven't gotten to check out any of the movies in the festival so far, I hope you take this weekend as an opportunity to support you local film makers. Most of the screenings are followed by a Q&A with people who worked on the film, some of them coming to the bay area from very far away. I've pulled some of the highlights coming up, but you can also check out the entire calendar at their site.
And if neither of those seem appealing, SFMoMA's Modern Cinema lineup showcasing Werner Herzog and several other directors is running all weekend. Check out the lineup here.

Friday 10th @ 9:30pm (1hr 28min)
Documentary/ Horror/ Mystery (IMDB)
Constructed entirely from existing films, Fear Itself is a personal journey through fear and cinema that asks whether horror movies know us better than we know ourselves.

Saturday 11th @ 9:30pm (1hr 29min)
Drama/ Horror/ Sci-Fi (IMDB)
A young woman struggles to survive on her own in the wake of a mysterious epidemic that has decimated society and forced her deep into the unforgiving wilderness.

Sunday 12th @ 7:15pm (1hr 41min)
Drama (IMDB)
Barra da Tijuca, West Side Zone of Rio de Janeiro. A wave of murderers plague the area. What starts off as a morbid curiosity for the local youth slowly begins to spoil away at their lives. Among them is Bia, a fifteen year old girl. After an encounter with death, she will do anything to make sure she's alive.

Silence!
Playing All Weekend
SILENCE! The Musical tells the story of rookie FBI agent Clarice Starling as she matches wits with the deliciously brilliant but insane cannibal, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, in order to catch the serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. Clarice faces her own demons—and a troupe of singing and dancing lambs—while racing against the clock to unlock Lecter’s clues before the hapless Catherine Martin is killed and skinned by Buffalo Bill.
