Screenings in the Bay (Monday to Friday): Thundercrack, Two-Headed Double Feature, Officer Downe

Hey guys! Happy Monday of a hopefully shortened week for everyone. Since most places are closed on Thursday, we're going to have a shortened movie lineup this week, but I'm not complaining! If you guys are anything like me, you'll also have a lot of movies to catch up with at home and an extra day off is perfect for that. But even with a short week, there's still plenty to see in the bay area.

You may notice an odd man out on this week's list, Officer Downe. I didn't include it last week and after seeing it I realized that was a mistake. It's an adaptaion of a comic book, directed by Shawn Crahan, aka the clown from Slipknot.

Keep reading more details and showtimes.

Super Shangri-La Show
Two Heads Are Better Than One Double Feature

Wednesday 23rd @ 7:30pm (1hr 31min)
Comedy/ Horror/ Scifi (Rotten Tomatoes)
In this sci-fi horror movie with comedic elements, a racist transplant surgeon (Ray Milland) learns that he's dying of cancer. He's recently performed some revolutionary experiments with a gorilla (special effects guru Rick Baker), by attaching a second head to the gorilla's body and removing the first one after the second has grown firmly into place. Now he wants to replicate the experiment with a human body, by grafting his head onto another person's frame. This way, he reasons, he'll be able to continue his medical and scientific work unabated. When he comes to after surgery, however, he's horrified to find out that his head has been stitched onto the body (and next to the head) of a large black man (former football player Roosevelt 'Rosey' Grier) due for a murder sentence. Enormous complications then ensue, as the two headed person runs about, with the convict intent on proving his innocence to the cops, and the scientist intent on having the convict's head removed. Director Frost formerly worked on stag films such as 1964's Love is a Four-Letter Word.

Wednesday 23rd @ 9pm (1hr 28min)
Horror/ Scifi/ Fantasy (Rotten Tomatoes)
This ridiculous '70s exploitation quickie is notable mainly for its casting: Bruce Dern toplines as the crazed doctor Girard, with Munsters star Pat Priest as his beleaguered wife and top-40 DJ Casey Kasem (who also lends his talents to various voice-overs throughout the film) as a medical colleague. Girard's semi-successful attempts at surgically attaching additional heads to various lab animals leaves him a bit unfulfilled, and it's no time at all before he goes about performing the operation on a human being. He chooses as his first subject his caretaker's simple-minded but kindly son Danny (John Bloom), onto whose massive shoulders he adds the head of a demented killer (Albert Cole) who was recently gunned down while trying to invade Girard's home. The result is less frightening than pitiful as the morose Danny's personality is subjugated to the evil will of his unwelcome new head, whose psychotic rage continues unabated in his hulking new physique. Shoddy effects, a cheesy (and horribly miscued) psychedelic score and laughably bad dialogue have ingratiated this film to many bad-movie buffs' top-ten lists.

Monday 21st @ 9:25pm (1hr 39min)
Tuesday 22nd @ 9:25pm
Wednesday 23rd @ 9:40pm

Monday 21st @ 9:15pm (1hr 28min)
Tuesday 22nd @ 9pm
Wednesday 23rd @ 7pm
Action (IMDB)
Adapted from the 2010 graphic novel, OFFICER DOWNE takes you into a hyper-real Los Angeles for the story of a savage LA policeman who is repeatedly resurrected and returned to active duty via dark science technology. When a rookie officer named Gable is recruited as back up, he discovers there's much more to the titular super-cop than a mindless law enforcement drone warring against a twisted rouges gallery of over-the-top super-villains.
