5 Japanese Horror Films on the Big Screen in the Mission

I told you guys there would be more horror this month! This time all the movies are all in one easy to get to location and they all have a common theme. Yes, it's the Roxie's...
Sadly, House will not be on the bill, but I do love those iconic eyes
The Roxie is getting into the Halloween spirit! Their Japanese horror week will run from October 25th straight to Halloween day, with several days and showtimes for each film! Normally, movie tickets for non-members are ten bucks, but you can get a pass to see all five films for just $35, which is like getting a movie and a half free.
I have to confess, I don't think I have not seen any of the movies in this line up, but they all sound great so I'll definitely be investing in the pass. But enough about me, let's get to the movies!

Audution
Playing 10-25 @ 8/ 10-28 @ 9:30/ 10-29 @ 9:30/ 10-30 @ 9

"Audition by director Takashi Miike might surprise you at first, as it starts as a lightly comic story about a widower who brings in actresses for a fake movie audition as a ploy to find himself a new mate. Don’t say we didn’t warn you, though, because Miike knows how to play the audience like a piano, and we guarantee you’ll be squirming out of your seat in no time. We’re extremely pleased to present AUDITION in 35mm."

Ju-On: The Grudge
Playing 10-25 @ 3:30 & 8:30/ 10-27 @ 9/ 10-28 @ 7/ 10-31 @ 9

"JU-ON: THE GRUDGE by Takashi Shimizu is one of the most popular and well-known J-horror films, and for good reason. A story of revenge that leaves its viewers paralyzed in fear, JU-ON chronicles the goings-on in a haunted house unlike any you’ve ever seen."

Kairo (Pulse)
Playing 10-25 @ 5:30/ 10-26 @ 8:45/ 10-27 @ 7/ 10-29 @ 9:30/ 10-31 @ 9:30

"KAIRO (PULSE) by Kiyoshi Kurosawa thrusts you into a moody, desolate and apocalyptic Tokyo to tell one of the most haunting tales of technology and the supernatural ever told. Dreamlike and unsettling, KAIRO will keep you on edge as it chronicles the breakdown of its characters at the hands of malevolent forces."

Noriko's Dinner Table
Playing 10-25 @ 5:15/ 10-29 @ 6:15/ 10-31 @ 1:30

"NORIKO’S DINNER TABLE by Sion Sono offers up a dark vision of Japanese society, replete with suicide, separation and stabbings on the streets of Shinjuku. NORIKO’s story weaves through the events of Sono’s earlier film, J-horror favorite SUICIDE CLUB, but you’ll enjoy this epic five-chapter masterpiece regardless of whether you’re a die-hard Sono fan or a J-horror virgin."

Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Playing 10-25 @ 3:30/ 10-26 @ 7/ 10-27 @ 9:30/ 10-28 @ 9
"TETSUO: THE IRON MAN by Shinya Tsukamoto was on the vanguard of Japanese horror in 1989, a brain-melting 67 minute live-action blast of Lynchian surreality and insane robotic transmutation. Just as badass as it sounds, TETSUO mixes grainy black and white photography and a killer soundtrack into one truly unique film."

If these titles grab your attention, come out to the Roxie Theatre for this event, which starts in just over a week. And if you plan on seeing most of them, be sure to get your 5 movie pass here! I'll be sure to remind you about it again.

Hope to see you guys there!
