Robot Warm Up

Yes, a robot punching a bull. "Real Steel" is setting the bar really low for Charles Band's "Crash and Burn". I often like to start a double feature with an early bird terrible movie, but this time I think I've out done myself.

Wednesday the 17th Double Feature

         

          I watched "Pacific Rim" yesterday and I must say I loved it. In fact I loved it so much I've been on a giant monster/mech high. This is unusually as I recently only really cared for Ultra Man when it came to this genre but now I cant get enough. I just want to watch monsters suplex each other all day! Since a movie like that doesn't exist (that I know of) one of the frequent visitors of the Overlook came up with a double feature that is pretty close (in a big robot way).

"Crash and Burn", directed by Charles Band.

          Now keep in mind I have not seen either film before so I can't make promises as to enjoyable these will be. Although I think its pretty safe to judge a book by its cover in this case. The start time should be     6-7PM so clear tomorrow night!

The Next Metal Director?

          We are all familiar with Rob Zombies films ("Halloween", "Devils Rejects", "Lords of Salem") and it seems as he steps back from the Horror genre another may fill his shoes. Shawn "Clown" Crahan of Slipknot will be sitting in the director seat soon to film "Officer Downe". A film based on a comic about an officer in LA who repeatedly dies on duty but is telekinetically resurrected by his superiors and sent back out to the streets. This may not be a straight up horror movie but it should contain a lot of the same elements. I for one am excited to hear this news, not just because I love gritty comics but because I think he has serious potential, just check out a music video he filmed below.

VHS 2 *Brief reminder*

          Jason Eisener is the main reason I'm dying to see this film. He is one of my favorite up and coming horror directors and I can not wait for his short. "VHS 2" has been out on VoD for awhile but I've been waiting to see this on the big screen and luckily SF got a limited release date (very limited). So as a reminder "VHS 2" will be playing at the Clay Theatre (2261 Fillmore Street SF) at 11:59PM (midnight). If you don't live in the Bay Area check here for available dates.

July the 13th

          July the 13th is a special day, for its the day my mother was born (and yes on a Friday). I am notoriously known as a mamas boy and I am not ashamed to admit it!

          My mother is also the one to blame for my love of horror movies, as she would let me watch movies like "The Monster Squad" or and or. She is also a big Stephen King fan and felt I was ready to enjoy his made for TV movie "It", at the early age of 5. I can honestly say that was the most scared I have ever been and looking back on it now, it is defiantly the reason I am obsessed with horror.

          I love my mom with all my heart and not just because she spoiled me with countless awesome toys, ranging from all the ninja turtle action figures to the raptor compound with dino damage dinosaurs. But because she has always been there, either to support me and the dumb stuff I do or to play my video games. So happy birthday mom, I love you!

Spellcaster Summons Leprechaun

This makes me love Spellcaster even more. I could go on forever about how there is nothing cooler than when Metal and Horror meet but alas it is SyFy shark day so i'll write a rant about that later. Time to get back to "Swamp Shark"!

Syfy's next Shark Movie

          This post may be a tough read (and for once not because of my typo's) but I swear just get to the end, it's worth it!

(2009)

          You'd really have to be living under a bridge if you have missed even one of the amazing Syfy shark films. I'm confidant no one else has ever said that in history and I'm willing to admit I don't even mean it. 2009 brought us "Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus" and for many of us that was all we needed to see of the CGI Goliaths, in fact I bet most people found it hard just sitting through that one film.  Despite the endless complaints I have read about and even heard first hand this was not the last shark film...

(2010)

            Unlike it's predecessor, "Sharktopus" found an audience, and wow did some cool fan art and toys came out to immortalize this mutant predator. 

But of course, they couldn't end on a good note...

(2012)

Honestly at this point it feels like Syfy probably made more of these shark films but I just don't feel like looking them up. I mean when you decide to use Jersey Shore for the crappy shark films, it's pretty safe to say you've "Jumped the Shark". 

Still this leads us to the 2013 shark film and I just want to say, this is most likely the dumbest idea ever but I can't help but laugh every time I even think about it. So enjoy this trailer because you know if I stumble upon a hard copy this will be screened.
