Screenings in the Bay (Monday to Sunday): Suspiria, Possum, Pulse

Happy Hallows Eve horror fans!
Screenings in the Bay is a touch late but there is so much to talk about that it's got to go up anyhow.

This week those of us who did not get to see any sneak peeks of the new Suspiria will get our chance! It will have early screenings on Halloween and open officially Friday. But if you'd rather spend Halloween with the original, you can catch that being presented by the Film School Drop Outs and Stereo Argento at the Roxie Theatre at 7pm.

Possum also joins the new releases list this week and, judging from the trailer, it looks dark, artsy, and crazy. I definitely want to check that out, but it will probably have to be on VOD.

Border is still screening at the Alamo Drafthouse and it surprised the hell out of me. I was totally lost in it and can't wait to share it with people to see their reactions.

And we're ending the week with a midnight screening of the one and only A Nightmare on Elm Street at the Clay Theatre. What a week!

Even worse, she feels a strange attraction to him. As Tina develops a special bond with Vore and discovers his true identity, she also realizes the truth about herself. Terror Tuesday

Tuesday 30th @ 10:20pm (1hr 42min)
Action/ Drama/ Fantasy (IMDB)
Based on the graphic novel by James O'Barr, this fantasy follows Eric Draven (Brandon Lee), a rock musician who is murdered along with his fiancée, Shelly (Sofia Shinas), by a group of marauding thugs who terrorize the decaying city in which they live. One year to the day after his death (which happens to be Devil's Night), a mystical crow appears at Eric's grave; Eric rises from the dead and, with the bird as his guide, goes on a mission to avenge himself against Top Dollar (Michael Wincott), the leader of the gang who killed him. Star Brandon Lee was killed while filming a scene in which he was shot with a shell from an improperly cleaned gun that was supposed to be loaded with blanks. Like his father, martial arts superstar Bruce Lee, Brandon was fated to enjoy his greatest popular success after his premature death. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Weird Wednesday

Wednesday 31st @ 10:40pm (1hr 26min)
Comedy (Rotten Tomatoes)
After making a name for himself with such underground gross-out epics as Pink Flamingos and Desperate Living, director John Waters made a bid for somewhat wider acceptance with this black comedy, which is sedate only by the standards of his previous work. Francine Fishpaw (Divine) is a housewife whose life has become a living hell. Her husband Elmer (David Samson) runs a porno theater (currently showing the classic My Burning Bush) and is having an affair with secretary Sandra (Mink Stole), a vision of sleaze in Bo Derek-style cornrow braids who informs Elmer, "Children would only get in the way of our erotic lifestyle!"

Screening in Odorama!

Midnight Madness

Friday 2nd & Saturday 3rd @ 11:55pm (1hr 31min)
Slasher/ Thriller (Google)
Several people are hunted by a cruel serial killer who kills his victims in their dreams. While the survivors are trying to find the reason for being chosen, the murderer won't lose any chance to kill them as soon as they fall asleep.

Nippon Nights

Tuesday 30th @ 9:15pm (1hr 59min)
Horror/ Mystery/ Sci-Fi (IMDB)
KAIRO (PULSE) by Kiyoshi Kurosawa thrusts you into a moody, desolate and apocalyptic Tokyo to tell one of the most haunting tales of technology and the supernatural ever told. Dreamlike and unsettling, KAIRO will keep you on edge as it chronicles the breakdown of its characters at the hands of malevolent forces.

Film School Drop Outs Present

Wednesday 31st @ 7pm (1hr 32min)
Drama/ Fantasy/ Horror (IMDB)
A candy-colored nightmare from Italian terror maestro Dario Argento, Suspiria weaves a menacing tale of witchcraft as a fairy tale gone horribly awry. Ill at ease as the result of her fellow student's peculiar behavior and increasingly terrified following a series of gruesome and spectacular murders, Suzy slowly begins to unravel the dark history of the academy. Convinced that the occult roots of the school and the horrific tale of its founding mother may hold an unthinkable secret, she begins a hallucinatory journey into the black heart of one of the most powerful witches ever known to exist. As Suzy edges ever closer to a secret that may hold the answers to all of her nightmares, the coven's grip on her soul begins to tighten until there is seemingly no escape. Will Suzy solve the mystery of the cursed academy before the fearsome Black Queen consumes her, or will she finally reveal the secret that has forever haunted the lavish corridors of the academy and bring an end to the Black Queen's terrifying reign?

Bluray Tuesday Featuring: Mandy, Our House & Blood Harvest

October 30th 2018

Halloween Eve just happens to also be Bluray Tuesday! This week is filled with titles that can help ring in our favorite holiday. First up this week is Mandy. Definitely not a film for everyone but I really enjoyed it and I feel is a collection worthy film. Scream Factory releases indie horror Our House. The premise sounds really interesting and I will check out in the near future for sure. Blood Harvest is the second blind buy of the week for me. This may be the one I'm most interested in and I really like the premise and cover. Arrow Video releases Torso for the first time on Bluray this week. It comes with a new scan and bonus material.
